When you need a hazmat-certified carrier
As a DOT hazmat carrier we run under USDOT 3388302 with drivers endorsed H and X, which is what separates a hazmat freight carrier from a trucking company that will take the lighter classes and refuse the rest.
Most hazmat carriers in Washington are one of two things: a dry-van trucking company that accepts the lighter classes, or a tank specialist that will not touch a container. Long Road is a hazmat trucking company built around the ports — regulated freight coming off Seattle and Tacoma on our own chassis, with the endorsements and the terminal access that requires.
If your freight carries a hazard class, the carrier has to treat it as regulated from the gate to delivery: matching paperwork, correct placarding, the right driver endorsement, and a planned handoff. Long Road moves regulated freight for the brokers, freight forwarders, and importers who clear it through the Seattle and Tacoma ports. Drivers hold HAZMAT and tanker endorsements and a TWIC for terminal access, so a dangerous-goods container gets picked up and delivered like the regulated load it is.
Call dispatch at (425) 800-4609 with your hazard class and lane, and Long Road assigns a HAZMAT-endorsed driver and plans the placarding and route the same day.

Long Road runs two legs for dangerous goods: drayage off the marine terminals, and the road delivery that follows.
Port drayage for hazmat containers
We haul hazmat container drayage off the Port of Seattle and Port of Tacoma terminals, both under the Northwest Seaport Alliance. Dispatch books the terminal appointment, tracks the release, and picks the container up before the last free day, so the demurrage clock stops and the load keeps moving. The delivery order and your schedule are all we need to start.
Over-the-road hazmat delivery
For shipments beyond the port corridor, Long Road runs the dangerous goods to the receiver by over-the-road delivery, local and long-haul to receivers in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and across the United States, plus cross-border to Canada. A hazmat move to Canada travels under bond through to the crossing.
The hazmat freight we move
Long Road handles the dangerous goods that come through the ports in volume. The heaviest demand falls in three commodities, each with its own page.
Fuel and flammable liquids
Diesel, fuel, solvents and other Class 3 flammable liquids, hauled with the placarding and securement the load calls for.
Batteries and lithium
Lithium batteries and wet electric-storage batteries, the Class 8 and Class 9 freight that needs careful handling against short circuits and leaks.
Industrial gases
Compressed, cryogenic and liquefied gases under Class 2, from propane to industrial cylinders, planned around pressure and temperature.
Fuel, batteries, or gases: call (425) 800-4609 and Long Road handles the dangerous-goods move from the terminal to the receiver, compliant end to end.

Long Road is HAZMAT certified across the classes it hauls: gases (2), flammable liquids (3), flammable solids (4), oxidizers and organic peroxides (5), toxic and infectious substances (6), corrosives (8), and miscellaneous dangerous goods (9). Tell us the declared class and the proper shipping name, and dispatch plans the placarding, securement, and route around it.
Hazmat compliance and certified drivers
Every Long Road hazmat move runs to 49 CFR and the PHMSA and FMCSA rules behind it, under USDOT 3388302, MC 113242, and SCAC LRDP. Drivers carry active HAZMAT and tanker endorsements and recurrent training, the equipment is inspected for dangerous-goods transport, and each load is backed by documentation, placarding, securement, and a route planned to keep it compliant from origin to delivery. The fleet is serviced in Long Road's own repair shop, so capacity stays up and a regulated load is not waiting on an outside mechanic.
Why shippers choose Long Road for hazmat
Long Road runs its own fleet of 200+ units of private chassis and equipment, so a hazmat container moves on the carrier's own gear and schedule. In business since 2020, a UIIA member with NWSA access, working with all the major steamship lines, Long Road handles the dangerous-goods move from the terminal to the receiver. Tight coordination, experienced drivers, and reliable private equipment save shippers over 20% on total ground-transportation costs by heading off delays, mark-up charges, and demurrage.

Send the delivery order, the desired schedule, and the dangerous-goods details: UN number, proper shipping name, hazard class, the Safety Data Sheet, and any placarding the load requires. Dispatch books the terminal appointment, assigns a HAZMAT-endorsed driver, and runs the container to the receiver, with live tracking at the terminals so you see standby times and progress on the move. Any special instructions for the load are worked into the plan.
How to choose a hazmat carrier
Hazmat trucking is one of the few areas of freight where picking the wrong carrier does not just cost you time — it puts the fine on you. The shipper carries responsibility for correct classification, packaging and documentation, so the questions below are worth asking of any hazmat carrier, including us.
- Are the drivers endorsed, and for what? A hazmat load needs a CDL with the H endorsement; anything moving in a tank needs X. Endorsements expire and require a TSA security threat assessment, so "we run hazmat" is not the same answer as "the driver assigned to your load is current".
- Do they know which table your material sits in? Most materials only need placarding once the aggregate reaches 1,001 lbs. The Table 1 materials — explosives 1.1 through 1.3, poison gas, certain Division 6.1 packing group I materials, highway-route-controlled radioactive — must be placarded at any quantity. A carrier that treats every load as a 1,001 lb question will eventually get one wrong.
- Is there a security plan? Certain shipments require a written security plan and trained personnel under the federal rules. Ask to see that it exists before the load, not after an inspection.
- What happens at the port? Hazmat containers move under terminal rules on top of the federal ones — restricted gate windows, segregation requirements, and limits on how long a placarded box can sit. A hazmat carrier that only runs over-the-road will meet those rules for the first time on your container.
- Is the equipment theirs? Brokered hazmat is where paperwork and placards fall between two companies.
We run hazmat trucking on our own trucks and our own drivers, off the Seattle and Tacoma terminals and over the road, across the classes listed above — including lithium batteries, fuels and compressed gases.
What shippers ask before a hazmat move
What counts as hazmat freight?
Hazmat, or dangerous goods, is freight that carries a regulated hazard class and needs matching paperwork, placarding, and a HAZMAT-endorsed driver. Long Road hauls classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
What hazmat freight does Long Road move?
The freight that comes through the ports in volume: fuel and flammable liquids, batteries and lithium, and industrial gases, plus flammable solids, oxidizers, toxic and corrosive cargo.
How does hazmat drayage from the Seattle and Tacoma ports work?
Dispatch books the terminal appointment, tracks the container release, and picks it up before the last free day, then runs it to the receiver under the right placarding, so demurrage and detention stay off the invoice.
What documents does a hazmat shipment need?
The UN number, proper shipping name, hazard class, and Safety Data Sheet, plus the placarding the class calls for. Send those with the delivery order and dispatch handles the rest.
What certifications do your hazmat drivers have?
Drivers hold active HAZMAT and tanker endorsements with recurrent training, and a TWIC for terminal access. The operation runs to 49 CFR, PHMSA and FMCSA standards under USDOT 3388302.
Do you handle both port drayage and over-the-road delivery?
Yes. Long Road drays the hazmat container off the Seattle and Tacoma port terminals and runs the road delivery that follows, local, long-haul, and cross-border to Canada.
How is hazmat transportation priced?
Pricing follows the hazard class, the route, and the handling the load needs. Send the lane and the dangerous-goods details for a quote.
